Easy Wavy Hairstyles With No HEAT!
I showed a very easy way to curl your hair with a curling iron in a previous post. But, using an iron can cause damage to your hair. If you want to keep your healthy beautiful hair, frequent use of your curling iron or straightening iron is a big NO NO!!
Don’t you worry !! There are a lot of things you can do to have cute easy curly hairstyles without damaging your hair. You can make braids, use rollers, and so on.
But, today, I want to share a SUPER easy way. Your curls won’t be as perfect as the one made by a curling iron, but rather look cute and messy “just woke up” hairstyles!!
A Trick For Waking Up In Already Curled Hair
① Your hair should be damp to start with. You can apply a hair products such as mousse or jel at this time if you like. (This time, I didn’t use any.)
② Divide your hair in 4 sections. First, divide hair in a half vertically, and divide each section horizontally.
③ Take a top section of hair and twist it. Twirl it at the base, just like you would make a bun. Secure it with a hair band.

④ Take a bottom section of hair and twist it. This time, you are going to twirl it around the bun you made first. Secure it with a hair band. This way, bottom curls are going to be bigger.

⑤ Do the same on the other side.
⑥ You are done for now!! Just go to bed like that, and you are gonna have wavy hair by tomorrow morning!! Yay!

* I made buns on the side of my head just because I tend to sleep on my back. If you are the person who sleeps on your side, then you should make them on the back of your head.
⑦ Next morning, style your hair with mousse, jel, or wax by separating and scrunching your curls with fingers. Hairspray to finish.
This time, my curls looked like this! What do you think?? I used hair wax to style.

The curls will come out differently depends on your hair type and how you twist hair. Try this easy trick and see how your hair will look next morning!!
But, what if you don’t like the way curls come out… I can’t say it never happens…
Do not panic! There are some solutions!!
Since you already have wavy voluminous hair, we will take an advantage of it, and turn into different hairstyles in only few minutes!
1st Option: Half Up Half Down

2nd Option: Messy Bun

3rd Option: Ponytail

Click the name of the hairstyles to discover the techniques!!
I also found a great article showing other ways to curl your hair without heat. Click here to read the article.
Good Luck!

do you have any thing easier
August 3rd, 2010
You can always wet your hair and tie in two side plaits that give you wavy hair but I think doing it this way is a lot more effective

I always hated my hair becuase it’s soo greasy and looks like i had just come out of the shower. But with wavy hair it looks shiny and not so greasy. THANKS LUV IT!
May 13th, 2011
Samee!!! I luuvvveee this way of doing my hair. My hair doesn no longer look shapeless and oily because it has brilliant curls which gives it amazing volume! Thank you so much. You are a life saver!!!

By the way do you have any quicker hairstyles for people with straight hair without using heat??
June 17th, 2009
Hi, jessica ji. You can probably do things like, twist up your damp hair and just use a hair clip to secure the hair in the morning. Then, take off the hair clip when your hair is dry. But I’m not sure how curls will turn out… I will post an article if I find any good idea!! Thanks.

Thanks! That is so helpful.
Will it also work with slightly shorter hair?
(about to the collarbone) ?
June 17th, 2009
Giving it ago thankyou for the tip hoping this will work because i have shorter hair than you and my hair is quite thick!
Let you know how it goes
(love the backup plans too)

Preferably done at night, just before you go to sleep.
After shower, towel dry your hair but leave it damp. Apply mousse to your hair from the roots to the end and then scrunch it up at the top of your head (don’t put it in a bun or anything neat) and just leave it until the next morning and in the morning just brush your fingers through your hair and you’re done!

Hi, Kdee,
Thanks for sharing a cool tip! I will definitely try that

Now, I have naturlly wavy hair and I can’t stand it because the only style I can carry off is straightening it, but since that both gets boring and damages my hair, I went online for help. You really helped me out! My hair looks pretty-wavy now. Thanks!

Hi Caroline,
I try not to use a hair iron as much as possible, and my hair stays very healthy and styles really good! Having healthy hair is the best thing to make your hairstyles look nice
Thanks for your comment!! I’m glad that my website was helpful for you

Caroline,
I also have wavy hair, and besides straightening it, I take strips of cloth about 6 inches long and 1 inch thick, tie it on the bottom of a 1-2 inch strand of hair, and roll up, tying the ends together at the top of my head. It comes out curly the next day, and is beautiful! I suggest you try it!
You can also go on youtube for a wonderful tutorial by Michelle Phan on paper bag curls
Cheers!

Hi Liz,
I have seen that video on youtube! That was amazing! Thanks for letting us know.
January 13th, 2010
hey that michelle phan curls are real hard can anybody make something easier??
September 7th, 2009
if you tie your hair up damp it tends to flake up….
September 20th, 2009
Hi Pink,
That’s depend on the type of hair, I think… We can use hair products like leave-in conditioner or styling mousse to reduce flaking.

Thank you soo much for this easy trick!
I have naturally wavy hair, but it gets pretty frizzy. The only way I could have it be curly and not so frizzy was hot rollers, but I like to use as little heat as possible. This worked PERFECTLY! Thank you so much!
I like to use a little apple-cider vinegar diluted with water as a shampoo rinse for extra shine
September 30th, 2009
Hi Dana,
I’m glad you liked it! Apple-cider vinegar sounds great! Thanks for the tip. I’ll try that
September 24th, 2009
this sounds great… but I am a morning shower person– a long shower— the shower wakes me up, especially letting water flow over head; realizing one of the solutions is a shower cap; but that does not sound appealing. Not to someone that uses the shower for a wake up.
If I was a night/no am shower person- I most definitely would try; and sounds great

This is the best thing ever! Cute hairstyles that don’t require heat. Using the dryer is really drying out my hair so these ideas have come in handy. Thanks!
September 30th, 2009
Hi Grace,
I’m glad you liked it! Ever since I stopped using a dryer so often, my hair feels much better
September 29th, 2009
thank you now i dont have 2 use heat what will damage my hair.(it was good thinking)!!!xxx
September 30th, 2009
Hi Ronni.w,
You’re welcome and thank you for visiting my website!!
October 8th, 2009
I might try this out sometime! Probably tonight, actually, lol. If I want wavy hair, I usually put it up in a bun or braids. I never thought about doing it this way. I don’t really like doing my hair the non-heat way, if you believe it or not. xD I hate the feel of hairspray/mousse/gel in my hair and curls from flat-irons just last a lifetime.
October 8th, 2009
Hi Emily,
Thanks for your comment. It is so true that curls made by an iron lasts longer!! But I just don’t like to use an iron every single time. So hopefully this hairstyle will work out for you. too.

It didn’t work with me !!!
November 15th, 2009
Hey Eri,
After the wavy overnight trick, what do I put in my hair so that my hair wont frizz during the day?
I have naturally wavy hair and I used so much heating tools on it, that its frizzy when i dont do anything to it. So I have to either straighten it, or scrunch it everyday. Ive tried curling but it never comes out the way I want it to. So do you have any help on that?
November 17th, 2009
Hi Kristina,
Your hair might be little dry… so why don’t you try an anti-frizz hair mousse or hair wax? I always use a hair wax. I think it’s good for any types of hair
November 19th, 2009

December 8th, 2009

This is awesome! OMG thank you so much – I’m in High School and I don’t have time (or healthy enough hair) to blow dry it. I love this look – my hair is naturally kind of wavy – and it’s so simple!
April 11th, 2010

May 21st, 2010
hmm.. Does it still work with Shortt thinkk curly hairr?
Cuzz i have that and i cant do NOthiNG to it! i wear it up EVERYDAY and i hatte itt!
& Straightening damages too much so i try to stay away from that.
June 10th, 2010
thx so much!!! i will try it tonight and c how it works!!! i’m so excited. i’m so used to using the curling iron so….
June 17th, 2010
actually if any of you who have slightly wavy hair you could try washing your hair then putting it into a braid. The next morning unleash your hair and you might get waves at the end.
If you want all of your hair curly try a french braid overnight.
July 30th, 2010
i do alot of these kinds of hair hairstyles. and i really want to share some is there anyway i can.?
August 13th, 2010
If I like to sleep on my side and I put the buns on the back of my head instead of the sides, will my hair in the front be straight on the top?
August 23rd, 2010
this works really well!! but for me the last step is definitely not taking the twists out because and crinkly and kinda crazy, but i took a spray bottle with plain water in it and used a very wide tooth comb to brush it out just ALITTLE and it came out beautifully!
September 14th, 2010
4 a krimped hairstyle with NO heat read the following:
1. Take a shower then let hair air dry 4 bou 20 mins
2. Pat in a volumizing moose
3. Part hair, half up half down and clip up
4. Braid the bottoms half in 3 different braids then let the top half down
5. Braid the top half in 3 seperate braids
6. SLEEP!
7. Wake up, gently take it out!
Instant krimp look!
If u have frizzy hair or flyaways u may want 2 flatten them with a finishing cream
*THICK HAIR DOESNT NEED MOOSE:)
HoPe tHiS hElPs! yAy.
October 12th, 2010

March 10th, 2011
i love this idea, its exactly wat i needed
cheers
March 30th, 2011
I love this idea but my hair is so thick that if I were to put it up at night..it would still be wet in the morning. I would try to blow dry it but that causes my hair to frizz very badly:(
April 19th, 2011
Mikayla, have you thought of trying a dehumidifier instead of a blowdrier? I’ve heard that it works better with thick hair, especially if it is naturally curly/wavy.
May 23rd, 2011
i can do all this and once i leave the house my hair frizzes and just falls flat even tho my hair is wavy.and anything oil i put in it..makes it look dirty n gross
what should i do??
September 13th, 2011
